I have decided to make a wind chime…and because I am a beginner and I am not sure if this is a hobby I want to pursue long term I don’t want to go out and buy pipes, pipe cutters, or a drill…

I want to buy small wind chime pipes for now….but it doesn’t seem like anyone carried them. I have been to Michaels, Walmart, Hobby lobby, etc…

I have purchased a small wind chime from hobby lobby for 50% off so I can chop it up and use it…

But does anyone know if there is a store that sells small wind chime pipes?

Oh and any advice on making wind chimes would be great!

i have to make wind chimes for a physics project, and i thought that the equation was frequency = speed of sound/(2 x length). im using 340 m/s for the speed of sound, and also incorporating the diameter (which is 1 inch or 2.54 cm) so the denominator of the equation is now 2(length + 0.8d). using this equation i cut and hung all the pipes for the frequencies i needed, but none of the pipes are in tune to the note they are supposed to be. does anyone know why this happened? i had someone else check my math and it is all right. again, using the equation frequency = (340 m/s)/(2(length + 0.8diameter)

(I will probably get some angry answers for this but I need to vent) Ok I live in a Town home in Las Vegas, NV where there are many windy days and nights. The neighbor across the way has wind chimes that are loud and keep us awake all night. I hate to be a pain and go to her and tell her they are annoying. (i hate to start trouble) but they keep me and my Family awake through the night. I’m afraid there is nothing I can do. What is the difference between noisey wind chimes and an annoying party or a dog barking through the night? Maybe I sound annoying right now but this has really been bothering me lately.
Sandyspacecase down below should feel very lucky that I am not her neighbor, because is she gave me the middle finger she would find EACH AND EVERY ONE OF HER ANNOYING HUNDRED DOLLAR wind chimes pulled off the hooks and torn in to hundreds of pieces on her front door step : ) Honey… I’m sure they are beautiful but enjoy your noisey art in your house!!!!

Why are Christmas trees ALWAYS satanic, but wind chimes could swing both ways?

My Japanese mother-in-law is Buddhist. However, she enjoys celebrating the Christmas holiday by decorating tree with various Christmas ornaments. She is not worshipping the tree; she just thinks it’s a “fun custom.” She is not celebrating the birth of Jesus – since she does not believe in Christianity.

She also has some wind chimes that purchased about 15 years ago in Pike Place Market (Seattle). I’m not sure what she thinks about the wind chimes, but some Buddhists think they are useful in chasing away bad spirits.

On this subject, the Watchtower writes:

"If one’s motive in putting up a wind chime has nothing to do with false religion, superstition or demonism, and there is little possibility of others’ getting the wrong impression regarding its use in the home, it is a simple matter for personal decision."

Why doesn’t the WTS come to the same conclusion about Christmas trees? It seems to me that the key difference is simple: the Watchtower (JW leadership) allows Witnesses to put up wind chimes, but has decided not to allow Witnesses to put up a Christmas tree. Similarly, piñatas, the exchange of wedding rings, and baby showers, all have "pagan" origins, but the Watchtower has decided to allow Witnesses to have them if they so desire. It’s all based on the whims of a few elderly men in New York.

So why not rewrite the policy on Christmas trees to read:

"If one’s motive in putting up a Christmas tree has nothing to do with false religion, superstition or demonism, and there is little possibility of others’ getting the wrong impression regarding its use in the home, it is a simple matter for personal decision."

Would that be fair and logical?
Thanks Uncle Thesis: We did put up a Christmas tree (a fake one) several weeks ago. And as far as I know, no one in my family prostrated him/herself before it in worship. So I conclude that there’s nothing wrong with the tree and that it’s just a fun custom.

My downstairs neighbor has been complaining about the wind chimes I keep on my porch. The real culprit is the neighbor in the apartment next to mine

He has larger wind chimes but they are harder to see then mine and I always take mine down on really gusty days. I tried to tell my downstairs neighbor this but she is still calling management and when I try to talk to my next door neighbor he pretends he isn’t home but his car is there.

What should I do?

how do you get a change in pitch on wind chimes??
i know that you can change how long the tube is and that will change the pitch but i want to know how that will help the pitch…..like how does the change in size of the tube help to change the pitch???

Does anyone know of Asians using wind chimes to drive away spirits, or something like that? I vaguely remember reading about certain Asian cultures using wind chimes for that purpose.

I recently bought Chinese wind chimes and hanged them in my living room.
I slept in the room next door, and had a horrible nightmare, but I rarely have nightmares.

I bought the wind chimes at a Chinese market.

I know wind chimes are supposed to ward off negative energy, but can the opposite happen?
