How does everybody feel about wind chimes?

I put one a few days ago in the balcony of my apartment. I really like it but I don’t want a neighbor to complain. Should I keep it or take it down?

The empty-mind non-directed alertness concentration of meditation is very different from my understanding of concentration which is directed and focused.

But I read something once by Thich Nhat Hanh that the goal of meditation is to achieve the former state of heightened non-directed awareness or mindfulness not only whilst meditating, but in everything we do: walking, washing up, even talking to a friend. Is it possible to be in a state of mindfulness and also concentrated/focused at the same time, and how is this done?

As an example, can you engage in a conversation and count the breath at the same time? To me this sounds almost impossible, and even if you could, why would you want to?
kiowarose…. I can’t find anything about "contemplative notation" at the site you mentioned, so I have no idea what you mean.
Shahrizat, what you describe sounds like "multi-tasking", concentrating on two things at once, but mindfulness seems more like concentrating on everything at once, not only the stirring and little Nuris, but your breathing and the feel of warmth rising from the cooking and the fragrant coconut…. all at once… and yet be focused on what you’re doing… I’m not sure if I can quite get my head around it… how this all-encompassing mindfulness without "filtering" is achieved and why it is preferable to my understanding of concentration which is filtering out everything except that which you are focused on.
Will Rogers, I wish I understood… perhaps it can only be learnt through the experience of sitting meditation? And could you do all those things and even *count* the breath, or is it just awareness?

Christians and Zen Buddhists?

Do you think that Christians can also be Zen Buddhists?

As I understand it, most Zen Buddhists do not worship Buddha as a god. The practice of Buddhist meditation is exactly like some of the most spiritual Christians’ description of prayer without words. Breath prayer has been an ancient practice for Christians.

How many passages in the Bible speak of mindfulness, of staying awake and aware? How many tools does modern Christianity as practiced by most protestants in America really given us to be able to do that?

Zen Buddhists, do you think that Christians belief in a God by necessity means that they (we) can’t also practice Zen Buddhism?

I just finished the book, "Mindfulness in Plain English".

It talks about Vipassana Meditation as the way to "Enlightenment".

The author defines Enlightenment as full, persistent, unbroken, 24×7 "Mindfulness".

He says it is totally doable, for anyone, meaning it does NOT require spiritual or religious or mystical or "new age" mumbo jumbo.

Just practice. A particular practice. The meditation PRACTICE known as Vipassana. As taught by The Buddha 2,500 years ago, and fully refined through today.

And it is hard work, but it is just work. So anyone can do it, and achieve Enlightenment, and radically and dramatically change their life for the better forever.

And all that other stuff is either total BS, or just side-effects of Meditation.

Can anyone and everyone achieve Enlightenment by practicing Vipassana Meditation??

WIND CHIMES (a poem)?

Okay, I’ve written a poem b4 and a couple peeps have read it. This time I didn’t make it rhyme so here it goes

Wind chimes slowly play your song in my heart
Fill it with your stunning sound
Your magnificent depth
Make my heart sing
Make it jump for joy

Wind chimes, as you peacefully lull me to sleep
Let sway, sway in my dreams
Of happiness and hopes for tomorrow
Let me close my eyes
And sleep until the shining sun awakens me
To another tomorrow
